National Geography Bee 2009

January 2009

Classroom Bees:  December 2008

School Bee:  January 2009

How to prepare for the National Geography Bee

1.  Examine a physical and cultural atlas of the world.  A globe would be helpful as well.  Yes, trying looking at actual paper maps and a globe!

2.  Visit the following site for weekly geography quizzes:

          http://geography.about.com/library/quiz/blpreviss.htm

3.  Try the GeoBee Challenge from National Geographic.  There are five new questions each day:

          http://www.nationalgeographic.com/geobee/

4.  Sheppard Software produces some good atlas online games dealing with rivers, countries, capitals, et cetera:

          http://www.sheppardsoftware.com/Geography.htm

5.  You can even make maps of the US or world on:

          http://www.nationalatlas.gov

          http://www.geographynetwork.com/

6.  You can download and explore the Earth using Google Earth or NASA Worldwind software:

          http://earth.google.com

          http://worldwind.arc.nasa.gov/

7.  Finally, National Geographic also has some suggestions to prepare for the Bee, including current events, blank outline maps, and more:

          http://www.nationalgeographic.com/geographybee/study_corner.html

Hopefully, these would be helpful.  If you come up with other suggestions, let your teachers and classmates know.
