Homework: Homework is assigned on a daily basis and counts for 10% of your grade each trimester.  You should expect to spend 20-25 minutes per night.  The types of assignments will vary.  You may be reading (both fiction and non-fiction), answering questions, working with maps, making maps, doing research for a paper or project, learning about a current event, writing a paragraph, or studying for a quiz or test.  All assignments must have headings, be done neatly and handed in on time.  They will be checked for thoroughness and accuracy (check+, check, check -, and 0).  Assignments not completed on time make it difficult to participate in class discussion and have a negative effect on your overall grade, as homework is usually the starting point for the next day’s class!   Failure to do an assignment means a missing homework sheet (pink) will be sent home for your parents to sign.  Late assignments turned in the next day will receive a check- in place of a zero, if you complete it well and bring it to me for credit.  If an assignment is not turned in on the next school day, it remains a zero!  You start each trimester with 10 homework "points," but each zero for which you do not make up the work subtracts a point from your 10.  If you have two zeros in the grade book at the end of the trimester, the best you can earn would be eight points for homework.
