NICHOLS SCHOOL WEIGHT ROOM
POLICIES
The
Nichols School Weight Room can only be used by Nichols School students under
direct supervision of an adult member of the Nichols School faculty.
The faculty member who allows the student in the room is directly
responsible for the supervision of that student.No
student is allowed in the weight room alone. No student may use the
weight room unless she/he is weight room certified.
Weight Room Procedures:
- Safety Spotting Systems & weight clips are to
be in place at all time for the squat and bench machines. Athletes
using the bench and squat machines must have a knowledgeable and active
spotter overseeing the activity. These machines can cause injury.
Bar pad is to be reattached to the bar after use – it should never be left
on the floor.
- All weights must be returned to the proper peg on
the bench press machines. 45 lb. Weights can be left on the leg press pegs
only. No weights are to be left on any workout machine. Each peg is
marked with the weight that is to be placed on that peg. Do not mix
weights.
- All seats and handles must be sprayed and wiped down
following each workout at every machine. Disinfectant and clothes are
available in the four corners of the room. This includes floor mats.
- All 8-40 lb. rubber dumbbells are to be placed on
the dumbbell rack in ascending order with the exception of the 45, 50 lb.
dumbbells which are to be placed on the floor under the metal dumbbell
rack. 5 lb. dumbbells are to be placed on top of the rack horizontally
lying across the 8 and 10 lb weights. All 1-2 lb. dumbbells are to be put
in the metal bin beside the dumbbell rack. No weights are to be left
scattered on the floor. Extra metal dumbbells are to be placed under
the rack as well.
- Benches are to be returned to the proper machines if
they are moved for any reason. The red bench and one black incline bench
should remain in the dumbbell area.
- Lat Pulldown/Bicep Curl/ Low Row Combination Machine
Bars must be reattached to the machine immediately following use. No
bars are to be left on the floor at any time.
- Medicine Balls are never to leave the weight room
without being checked out by Mrs. Stone. Medicine Balls are to be
returned to the ball rack. They are never to be left scattered on the
floor.
- Appropriate exercise attire is required at all
times, including shirts. Tank tops are permitted but due to sanitary
concerns, must cover the entire back and chest. Sandals, open toe shoes,
string tanks, cut off tanks, or anything that compromises the safety and
professionalism of the fitness center are prohibited.
- Water in containers is the only beverage allowed in
the fitness center.
- Be aware of and accommodate others waiting to use
the equipment particularly during peak times. For the cardiovascular
machines, individuals are limited to 20 minutes per machine when
any other member is waiting to use the equipment.
