NICHOLS SCHOOL WEIGHT ROOM POLICIES

The Nichols School Weight Room can only be used by Nichols School students under direct supervision of an adult member of the Nichols School faculty. The faculty member who allows the student in the room is directly responsible for the supervision of that student.

No student is allowed in the weight room alone. No student may use the weight room unless she/he is weight room certified.

Weight Room Procedures:

  1. Safety Spotting Systems & weight clips are to be in place at all time for the squat and bench machines. Athletes using the bench and squat machines must have a knowledgeable and active spotter overseeing the activity. These machines can cause injury. Bar pad is to be reattached to the bar after use – it should never be left on the floor.
  2. All weights must be returned to the proper peg on the bench press machines. 45 lb. Weights can be left on the leg press pegs only. No weights are to be left on any workout machine. Each peg is marked with the weight that is to be placed on that peg. Do not mix weights.
  3. All seats and handles must be sprayed and wiped down following each workout at every machine. Disinfectant and clothes are available in the four corners of the room. This includes floor mats.
  4. All 8-40 lb. rubber dumbbells are to be placed on the dumbbell rack in ascending order with the exception of the 45, 50 lb. dumbbells which are to be placed on the floor under the metal dumbbell rack. 5 lb. dumbbells are to be placed on top of the rack horizontally lying across the 8 and 10 lb weights. All 1-2 lb. dumbbells are to be put in the metal bin beside the dumbbell rack. No weights are to be left scattered on the floor. Extra metal dumbbells are to be placed under the rack as well.
  5. Benches are to be returned to the proper machines if they are moved for any reason. The red bench and one black incline bench should remain in the dumbbell area.
  6. Lat Pulldown/Bicep Curl/ Low Row Combination Machine Bars must be reattached to the machine immediately following use. No bars are to be left on the floor at any time.
  7. Medicine Balls are never to leave the weight room without being checked out by Mrs. Stone. Medicine Balls are to be returned to the ball rack. They are never to be left scattered on the floor.
  8. Appropriate exercise attire is required at all times, including shirts. Tank tops are permitted but due to sanitary concerns, must cover the entire back and chest. Sandals, open toe shoes, string tanks, cut off tanks, or anything that compromises the safety and professionalism of the fitness center are prohibited.
  9. Water in containers is the only beverage allowed in the fitness center.
  10. Be aware of and accommodate others waiting to use the equipment particularly during peak times. For the cardiovascular machines, individuals are limited to 20 minutes per machine when any other member is waiting to use the equipment.
