New Math/Science/Technology Building

The new 26,000 square foot eco-friendly math/science/technology building will house seven laboratories, eight classrooms and a 40-seat technology learning lab. The innovative building design will foster collaboration among disciplines and nurture student interest in the sciences. The modified roadways and parking will increase efficiency within the campus and provide enhanced safety for pedestrians, including naturally buffered parking areas, modified driveways and bus loading areas. Additional campus beautification and landscaping will create new outdoor student gathering and learning spaces.
Several elements of the project support the Big Green Initiative, the school’s program supporting environmental consciousness and individual wellness. The new building will feature an intricate wall system for natural daylighting and sun control, a landscaped green roof, as well as a sustainable heating and cooling system. Nichols is working on the project with the design firm Architectural Resources of Buffalo and New York City and exploring virtual designs using cutting edge 3-D technologies. The building will feature an active, naturally purified indoor air quality system and make extensive use of recycled building materials, as Nichols successfully utilized with the recent construction of two artificial turf athletic fields.
In addition to the building construction and improved roadways, the school is expanding its sustainability efforts in existing buildings, including the recent installation of a new heating system and windows in Albright Hall. Similar updates were made to Mitchell Hall this summer.
